Ring Tones - Big Business for a Little Sound!

But in recent times, we find that there is a lot of noise being made about ring tones and diversified types of business activities evolving around them. From handset manufacturers, to network carriers and finally to the online service providers, special care is being taken at all these levels to ensure that the mobile phone users can get to enjoy some of the best tunes in the mobility marketplace!

The use of mobile phones has become a common phenomenon across the globe. This trend is nothing uncommon, with the faster lifestyles that we are leading and the increasing amount of time that we are spending at workplaces and away from family and friends. However, what is surprising is the wide popularity of a multitude of the latest ring tones among mobile phone users. Users are not only using the mobiles for their functionality in staying connected with their loved ones; they are using mobiles as well as mobile phone ring tones as a symbol of their social standing.

Different types of ring tones such as monophonic ring tones, polyphonic ring tones and real music ring tones are being downloaded by an ever-increasing number of mobile phone users across the globe. It has been observed that mobile phone users prefer a good ring tone over the corresponding song and often pay more for the ring tones than the original compositions. The overall business in the world for ring tones in 2004 was estimated to be around $4 billion dollars. From this statistic, it can be easily estimated that the global music industry gains a large percentage of its profits from ring tones alone.

As technology progresses, real tone ring tones and MP3 ring tones, which have better sound quality as compared to the monophonic versions and are better representations of the original tunes, are expected to become more popular. However, experts believe that there would be a simultaneous prevalence of solutions that would help users to create their own ring tones from original musical scores. Specific software solutions are expected to make their appearance in the mobility marketplace, which combined with MP3 capable phones, would assist users to transfer music from their collections to mobile phone handsets. As a consequence, the market for ring tones is expected to be divided between service providers offering ready made ring tones and those that would offer software for turning music into ring tones. However, the creation of ring tones from original music would be naturally more difficult than paying for and downloading the same into mobile phone handsets. Record companies and cell phone service providers must come to terms with these actual facts and become aware of the limitations that are expected to overshadow the business of ring tones to a significant extent.

As of now, the business of ring tones is doing quite well. Users are demanding the best in ring tones and are getting what they want. Telecommunication companies are making big bucks by selling ring tones and other content to mobile phone users. The mobile telephony marketplace is offering a wealth of opportunities to highly efficient providers of mobile content. The on-line firms are competing among themselves in assisting users to download some of the best ring tones and other content to their handsets. With an increase in the disposable income of a general consumer and the improvement in the quality of life of a representative individual of the global economy, this popularity of ring tones and their repercussions on the telecom market, should not come as a surprise to any one of us!

Cellular Phones - Things to Consider When Buying a Phone

Staying connected with a cell phone has become a way of life for most people. As a result, there are many types of cell phones on the market. Knowing what is important to you in a phone can help you decide which cell phone to purchase. The following is a list of things to consider.

1. The size and weight of the phone. Some people like the smallest phone they can buy while others want something substantial.

2. A phone with or without a flip cover. A flip cover can protect your keypad, but it may also be cumbersome.

3. The option to use the phone with a speakerphone. This is especially helpful while driving and talking on the phone.

4. A phone with a built in camera. You can be prepared to capture that great shot at any time.

5. Color display. Color really helps when surfing the web and taking digital pictures.

6. A phone with a built in PDA. Stay organized and have phone numbers at your fingertips. Check your schedule and talk on the phone at the same time.

7. Your budget. Cell phones range in prices, but usually are less expensive when also purchasing service.

8. Overseas usage. You may not need this often, but when you do, it’s very convenient.

9. Text messaging capability. This is another great way to keep in touch.

10. Accessing the Web. Stay connected to the web and look up information anywhere, anytime.

11. Ability to use your phone as a walkie-talkie. This is good for quick conversations.

12. Ability to download unique ringtones. Make your phone fun by choosing your favorite song as your ringtone.

13. An MP3 player. Take your favorite tunes with you wherever you go.

As you can see, there are many options available in a cell phone. Of course, the more options you choose for your phone, the more expensive it becomes. But if you want to stay connected, you’ll be sure to find the best phone for you if you consider all the options.

Be Prepared Cell Phones for Emergencies

You pull over to the side of the road. There’s smoke coming out of the hood–the car has overheated.

You’re halfway between your house and your parents’ house for a visit.

What’s the first thing you do after you pull over? I hope you have your cell phone on you.

You’ve been there. An emergency. Something unexpected happens, and you are far from a land line. What do you?

Thank goodness for cell phones.

My older sister said she’d never have a cell phone. She’s not into high technology. But her daughter insisted. She bought my sister a cell phone and put her on her family’s cell phone plan.

I breathed a sigh of relief.

My sister and her husband have retired to the southwestern desert. If they go to visit family or go on vacation, they have to drive highways where there are miles between exits. We always worried. What if their car breaks down? What if they have a health emergency? What would they do in the heat if they had to walk to get help?

There’s really no better insurance than having a cell phone. And it’s truly amazing the cell coverage that is available with many services any more. Even if you are out in “no man’s land” there is often at least some cell coverage.

My sister never thought they’d actually have to use this cell phone in their travels. But on their way to my son’s graduation in California, their car over heated in the desert. They rested a while. The car seemed alright and so they ventured on. In a couple of miles, the car started smoking and came to a dead stop.

They didn’t know it then, but the water hose had broken. Thank goodness they had their cell phone and could call the auto club. And then they called all of us to let us know they would be late.

If they had not been able to call and didn’t arrive on time, I would have been wringing my hands and pulling my hair. But their cell phone call put all of us at ease. The auto club got out there right away and got them to the nearest repair station. The repair shop replaced the water hose and they were on their way again.

They actually made to my son’s graduation on time!

If you want a cell phone only for emergency purposes, plan on just using it occasionally, or if you don’t have a lot of money to spend on a cell phone, consider a prepaid cell phone.

I just can’t say enough about having a cell phone when you go on road trips. It’s an absolute necessity. I can’t imagine anyone going on a road trip without a cell phone!
